What’s For Dinner?
Tantalizing sodium sulfite prawns, pink as the effluent lagoons their factories are famous for. Such harmless chemicals form neon lakes and a shrimp cocktail to die for. Perfectly preserved, the shrimps travel for miles and miles, and miles, and when they reach their destination intestine, will you recall that we are all connected? There is nothing natural about your complexion. Please, do not make a scene, do not choke on the black veins of your pink lunch. Might you try the shark fin soup instead? We prefer to hide the true costs from the view of our customers, what they do not see will hurt them. Anyone for seconds?

This poem is inspired by the recent news out of Argentina, where a lake and adjacent waterways have become polluted with waste water from fish factories, turning the water neon pink. See the article here.
